Mean One... by Arnie-Sketch Mean One... by Arnie-Sketch
...Mr Grinch! i wanted to get this done for Christmas day but between everything with family my girlfriend and her family i wasnt able to get done before i left the house. but better late than never and i def dont want to wait till next Christmas for this one. i really am pleased with the face on this one but i want to know what you guys think about it, primarily the background, whether it works or if it's overpowering the piece.

let me know guys Merry Christmas!!

Edit: 12-26-09 i felt like the background had no rythym to it and was clashing a bit with the character, so i redid it to fit a bit better. let me know what you all think.

Edit:1-4-10 i looked at this one once more and felt like his brow line seemed disconnected from his eyebrow itself. so i went in and touched ut up a bit nothing huge but i feel like its an improvement.

Edit:1-12-10 after a suggestion by :iconevanjenkins: i realized the bg on this was really overpowering the grinch, specifically in contrast to the red hat. so i toned the background down a bit. hope it works let me know what you think

Edit: 1-16-10 after thinkin about it i decided to go with the distressed version of my Grinch ill, i really like the feel of it and the color on the grinch himself more, i feel like its much more interesting and a less expected look for the concept. let me know what you guys think.

Edit: 7-11-10 been a while since ive looked at this one but i really just wasnt happy with how the distressed look was workin, im much happier with this though.

I think - it's very great version of cartoonish Grinch!

I see you requested a critique.
May be - i can just say that such cartoon-pictures need an "old paper" - texture. Textures will make it more natural and eye-candy. :)
Sorry for bad english

thanks for the comment man and the fav.

i may try to do a texture on this at least for the bg, i was also thinking of what it would look like if the grinch himself were only black and white just as he was on the cover of the book except for his eyes anyway, what do you think?

Now that Evan mentioned it, it did seem that the hat blended into the background, but now it's fixed!

Great work!

I like his his face and hat a lot and think you did a great job with that. I think the background is still overpowering the image though. The red in his hat being less saturated than the red in the background makes the background stick out above the face, imo. I like the colors on the Grinch so I guess my suggestion is to tone down the background colors.

thanks for the comment. i'm beginning to agree with the background, it does kind of distract fom the grinch himself funny thing too is that i took the colors in the bg straight from the book's itself(did a print screen to extract the colors actually) but i think i will see what i can do to fix it and maybe even rework the bg itself. thanks again for the comment very helpful.
